This book will be published March 4, 2014.
Alex Wayfare wishes she was a normal girl, but unfortunately she is an outcast. This is mainly because Alex has visions of the past, and she tries to avoid anything that may trigger these visions. Her life is completely dictated by something she can’t control, and it makes her miserable. But when Alex finds out that her “visions” are actually past lives, and that she can control what life she visits and when, she leaves her present behind and escapes into the past. She becomes even more fascinated with her past lives when the same boy keeps showing up every time she goes back. It turns out Alex is not the only person who can descend into the past, and her life changes forever when someone starts to hunt for her through time.
This book seems to be set up as the beginning of a series, though I can not find any information to confirm this. The book also ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I will write this review under the assumption that a sequel is on the way.
I was very entertained by this book, and though it was a light read, it was well written. The plot line is engaging, and the author makes it very easy to care about the protagonist. It was interesting to read a book that made so many different periods in history come alive at once, and the author makes the past very vivid to the reader. There book was also well paced, with no portions where the plot became “slow” or hard to read.
Some of the novel’s secondary characters could have been written with a bit more depth, but despite that , this book has few flaws. The cover, on the other hand, does not look very professional, and may be a deterrent to many people who would have otherwise enjoyed this book.
This novel is not a masterpiece of prose, or an in depth look at history, but it is a fun, fast paced read that is enjoyable for both a YA and adult audience. It is a wonderful debut novel, and I hope to see a sequel from this author soon.
Overall, I would give this book a 7.5/10.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in return for an honest review.
